Who we are
Our values
We are inclusive. We are a community. And we are built on respect.
We are a village
Northwell Education is not just a place to learn. It is a community. A small, intentional one — where every young person is known, every voice matters, and everyone has a role to play in making it work.
We welcome young people from all backgrounds, all experiences, and all starting points. There are no conditions on belonging here. But belonging comes with something in return: a commitment to the community you are part of.
We call it the village. Everyone contributes. Everyone looks out for each other. And everyone is held to the same standard — not because we are strict, but because we respect each other enough to mean it.
What we stand for
01
Respect is non-negotiable
We are inclusive without exception. But inclusion does not mean anything goes. Respect for other people — their backgrounds, their feelings, their space — is the one thing we ask of everyone, every day. It is not a rule. It is how we treat each other.
02
Everyone belongs here
No young person is turned away because of where they have come from or what has happened before. We start from the belief that every person deserves a place where they feel safe, seen and valued. That is what we build.
03
We grow together
Progress at Northwell is not just academic. It is personal. We grow in confidence, in how we communicate, in how we handle difficulty. Staff and learners grow together — because we are all part of the same community.
04
Honesty builds trust
We are straight with young people. We tell them the truth about where they are, what they need to work on, and what is possible. That honesty is a form of respect. It is what real support looks like.
05
Small is a strength
We are deliberately small. Small groups mean every learner is known. Small teams mean staff can work closely together. We are not trying to scale. We are trying to be excellent — and to make every young person feel that this place was built for them.
06
Every young person can progress
We do not write anyone off. Whatever has happened before a young person arrives at Northwell, we start from the belief that progress is possible. Our job is to build the conditions that make it likely — and then get out of the way.
What we ask of our community
These are not rules handed down from above. They are the shared expectations that make Northwell work for everyone.
- Treat every person in this building with respect — staff, peers, visitors.
- Show up. Consistency matters — to your own progress and to the people around you.
- Be honest. If something is wrong, say so. We would rather know.
- Take responsibility. Mistakes happen. What matters is what you do next.
- Look out for each other. This is a community. We notice when someone is struggling.
A place worth belonging to
We hold these values because we believe young people deserve a community that takes them seriously. One that is warm and honest in equal measure. One that expects something of them — because it believes in what they are capable of.
